A tense snake rescue unfolded in the Khao Mai Kaeo area when a homeowner narrowly avoided a cobra bite after discovering the venomous reptile hiding in his storage room.
At approximately 1:00 PM on March 29th, 2026, volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Foundation’s Khao Mai Kaeo station received an urgent call from a resident at House No. 41, Moo 3. The caller reported finding a cobra inside a storage area within the property.
Upon arrival, rescuers learned that the homeowner (who wished to remain anonymous) had entered the storage room to retrieve a drill when he spotted a roughly 1-meter-long cobra coiled and hiding among the items. Startled, he quickly retreated and immediately contacted the rescue team for assistance, fearing he could have been bitten.Using specialized snake-handling equipment, including wooden tongs, the rescue volunteers carefully captured the cobra. The snake was then safely placed into a secure container and later released back into a suitable natural habitat away from residential areas.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.Rescue officials used the opportunity to warn residents to regularly inspect their homes, particularly cluttered storage rooms, sheds, and overgrown areas, to prevent venomous snakes from taking up residence unnoticed. They advised people not to attempt to handle snakes themselves and to contact professional rescue teams immediately if one is spotted.
Snake encounters are relatively common in parts of Pattaya and surrounding areas, especially during certain seasons when reptiles seek shelter or cooler spots in human dwellings.
