Pattaya, Thailand – March 21st, 2026 – Tourist Police in Pattaya have launched an intensive investigation into a shocking gang assault on a 26-year-old Japanese tourist, captured in a viral video that has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious concerns about safety in the popular nightlife district.
The incident occurred in the early hours of March 21st, 2026, around 3:44 a.m., on Second Road in front of VC Hotel. The victim, identified as Mr. Kanasashi, a Japanese national traveling on a 60-day tourist visa (valid until April 7th, 2026), was allegedly set upon by a group of 5-6 mobile taxi app ride-hailing motorcycle riders.
According to police findings, Mr. Kanasashi had just exited Walking Street and was standing outside making a phone call when one of the riders approached him, reportedly to offer a ride or direct him toward the hotel area. Within approximately 10 minutes, the situation escalated into a vicious group attack. Video footage shows the victim being relentlessly punched and kicked by multiple assailants in what appeared to be a coordinated “pack” assault, with little regard for onlookers or public safety.
In a desperate bid to escape, Mr. Kanasashi shielded his head with both hands while running through the barrage of blows. The attackers did not stop there; they pursued him on foot and on motorcycles, even attempting to run him over with their bikes, leaving him severely injured and sprawled on the ground.
Rescue personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Foundation were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency report. Paramedics provided initial first aid and transported the injured tourist to Pattaya City Hospital. However, upon arrival and during registration, Mr. Kanasashi reportedly left the hospital without receiving further treatment.
Tourist Police investigators from Unit 4, Subunit 2, Region 1 Tourist Police, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Prapda Suksuntree and Pol. Lt. Col. Apichat Jarurak, immediately convened a meeting on the morning of March 21st to coordinate efforts. The team reviewed CCTV footage from the area, assessed the victim’s injuries from available evidence, and began compiling witness statements and other proof to identify and apprehend the suspects.
As of now, no formal complaint has been lodged by the victim at Pattaya City Police Station. Authorities are actively pursuing the group of taxi riders believed responsible, stating that such brazen violence in a major tourist hub will not be tolerated.
Tourist Police have vowed not to let the suspects escape justice, promising swift action to bring them to account and restore confidence among visitors. The investigation remains ongoing.
