Pattaya, Thailand (March 17th, 2026) – Pattaya City Council members conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing construction of the Eastern Region National Sports Center Football Stadium in Soi Chaiapruek 2 to review progress and address structural concerns, particularly the roof framework.
The inspection was led by Vice President of the Pattaya City Council Wisan Phettrakun, who serves as Chairman of the Sports and Recreation Committee, alongside Council President Banlue Kullawanich and Vice President Pairat Aromchuen. They were joined by the committee members, Dr. Pittaya Phirom-on (Assistant Secretary to the Pattaya Mayor), and officials from the Pattaya City Engineering Bureau.
Vice President Wisan Phettrakun stated that the visit focused on evaluating the roof structure after reports indicated the project had reached over 67% completion. The main delay stems from the original contractor abandoning the work, resulting in subsidence and uneven sections in parts of the roof. To resolve this, the Pattaya City Engineering Bureau has proposed a budget of 22 million baht to reinforce the steel framework, ensuring stability and compliance with standards. The budget has already been submitted to the council for consideration.
The council team reviewed detailed progress updates to confirm how the proposed funds would be allocated. If approved, the roof reinforcement work is expected to take no more than 150 days. Heavy machinery, including cranes, will be required, potentially affecting the field surface. Therefore, the roof must be completed first before proceeding with the turf football pitch, running track, and other surface elements.
Director of the Engineering Bureau Anuwat Thongkham added that the project faced significant setbacks when the previous contractor abandoned the site, necessitating a new contract for the remaining work, officially termed “Phase 3 Remaining Portion.” In addition to the damaged roof, the building has experienced leaks and lacks proper maintenance, requiring urgent repairs and upgrades before full completion.
The Phase 3 Remaining Portion project has already received an additional budget allocation of 328 million baht. These funds will cover improvements to the grandstand, roof structure, finishing details left by the original contractor, field surfacing, lighting, sound systems, and fire safety installations.
Once fully completed, the stadium is expected to meet standards for hosting ASEAN and Asian Games-level competitions while serving as a community facility for Pattaya residents and perhaps major events such as concerts or festivals.
The Pattaya City Council stated its commitment to closely monitoring the project to ensure timely completion, quality standards, and effective use of public funds. Updates will continue as construction progresses.
