PATTAYA, Thailand – March 13th, 2026 – A 42-year-old hotel owner in Pattaya has publicly appealed to the media after discovering that his cryptocurrency holdings, valued at over 6.5 million baht (approximately $180,000 USD), were allegedly unauthorizedly sold through a popular Thai trading app, leaving him with less than 50,000 baht.
Mr. Tewin Wongsawisutthikul visited local media outlets on the evening of March 12th, 2026, to detail the incident. He explained that he had accumulated various digital assets in his account on a well-known Thailand-based cryptocurrency exchange platform. To enhance security, he had enabled two-factor authentication (2FA).

According to Mr. Tewin, suspicious activity began in the early morning hours. He received security alert notifications via email during the night, causing him to immediately contact the platform to temporarily suspend deposits and withdrawals. However, when he checked his account again in the afternoon, he found that his assets had been systematically liquidated starting around 6:00 a.m.
The proceeds from the sales, totaling roughly 6.5 million baht, were then used to purchase 10,538 units of the cryptocurrency TAIKO at an abnormally inflated price of over 600 baht per coin. Normally, TAIKO trades at around 3 baht per coin (approximately $0.09–$0.12 USD based on recent market data). In this case, the price reportedly surged more than 600-fold within just four minutes before collapsing back to its typical level, resulting in a near-total loss for the account holder.

Mr. Tewin explained that he did not authorize any of these transactions. He has since contacted the platform’s operator, who responded that they would investigate the matter and provide updates later. Frustrated by the lack of immediate resolution, he expressed deep concern over the potential security breach and urged the company to expedite their review.
The victim has already filed a police report with Pattaya City Police Station to pursue a formal investigation into possible hacking or unauthorized access.
