Pattaya, Thailand – February 23rd, 2026 – Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngamphichet, accompanied by his executive secretary Phumiphat Kamolnat, attended a special ceremony to congratulate the Rotary Club of Pattaya on the 20th anniversary of Pattaya being designated as the “Rotary International City of Peace.”
The event took place at 10:00 a.m. at the Peace Monument (also known as the Pattaya Peace Monument) located in Pattaya Peace Park on Khao Phra Tamnak (Pratumnak Hill), behind the iconic “Pattaya City” landmark sign.

The celebration commemorated the historic recognition on February 23, 2006 (B.E. 2549), when Pattaya became the first city in Thailand to be officially designated as a Rotary International City of Peace by Rotary International and local authorities. Since then, the Rotary Club of Pattaya has worked with various organizations to promote peace initiatives annually across four levels: peace in the heart, peace in the family, peace in the community, and peace in the world.
A key symbol of this commitment is the Peace Monument itself, constructed from black granite and featuring a “Pillar of Peace” inscribed with the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” Situated in the scenic Pattaya Peace Park, the monument serves as a powerful reminder that peace is achievable and a shared value that everyone can help build.

The Rotary International Cities of Peace program originated from the Rotary Club of Wagga Wagga Kuring-gai in 1992, with the aim of developing a culture of peace at the local community level. Each year, clubs worldwide hold events on Rotary’s World Peace and Understanding Day to honor peace-building and community service efforts, while encouraging teamwork among Rotary clubs, government agencies, and other organizations.
The anniversary event also showcased upcoming initiatives, including the announcement of the Pattaya Peace Conference scheduled for Monday, December 14, 2026, at the PEACH Convention Center in Chonburi Province. The conference is expected to serve as a major platform for exchanging ideas and advancing peace-related work regionally and beyond.

Mayor Beer, his Thai nickname, expressed his congratulations to project chairman Niels Colov and the Rotary Club of Pattaya leadership, speaking to the city’s ongoing dedication to peace promotion. The milestone shows Pattaya’s enduring role as a center for international peace efforts, blending local community service with global Rotary values.
