Pattaya-
The U.S. military’s “Eagle” has landed in Pattaya as preparations for the Cobra Gold 2026 multinational exercise officially kicks off, with American military attachés visiting the Pattaya City Police Station for close coordination meetings.
On Wednesday, officers from the Pattaya City Police Station and Huai Yai Police Station welcomed U.S. military diplomats to discuss security arrangements ahead of the upcoming drills. Cobra Gold 2026, the 45th iteration of the long-standing Thai-U.S. joint military exercise, is scheduled to run from late February to early March 2026. It will involve more than 8,000 personnel from over 30 nations, including core participants Thailand, the United States, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia.
The exercise, co-hosted by the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the United States Indo-Pacific Command, focuses on interoperability across land, sea, air, space, and cyber domains. Activities will include command and control exercises, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations, and field training featuring amphibious landings, live-fire drills, and more.

Pattaya, a major tourist hub in Chonburi Province, and the nearby Huai Yai area serve as key locations for rest, recreation, and some training components during the exercise. With thousands of foreign troops expected to arrive for training and downtime, local authorities spoke about the dual challenges of maintaining public safety, traffic management, and order in a bustling resort city.
Police discussed the importance of seamless coordination to prevent disruptions, accidents, or incidents that could affect the city’s tourism image. Agreements were reached to provide full support in security, law enforcement, and assistance to ensure the exercise proceeds smoothly.
Beyond security, the influx represents a big economic boost for Pattaya. Participating troops are anticipated to contribute substantially through spending on accommodations, dining, and local tourism, vital lifelines for the region’s economy.
Local police stressed their role not only as enforcers of the law but as welcoming hosts committed to giving international visitors a positive experience. The goal is for participants to leave with fond memories, reinforcing confidence in Pattaya as a safe and hospitable destination.
In a broader message, authorities called on residents and business operators to act as gracious hosts: smile, be welcoming, avoid exploitation, and uphold good conduct toward all visitors. A strong, positive reputation benefits the entire tourism industry, ensuring long-term prosperity and stability for the community.
Cobra Gold 2026 promises to strengthen the enduring U.S.-Thai alliance while showcasing Pattaya’s readiness to support major international events. Residents are encouraged to extend a friendly greeting to any American or allied service members spotted around town!
