Nong Nooch Tropical Garden Pattaya hosted a memorable event titled “Marriage Registration on Elephant Back” on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2026, blending romance, Thai tradition, and the country’s legalization of marriage equality as a form of soft power on the global stage.
The special ceremony took place at 9:09 a.m. at the Sky Garden within the world-renowned botanical garden in Chonburi province. It welcomed couples from Thailand and abroad to register their marriages in a unique and culturally rich setting.
The event was presided over by Mr. Naris Niramaiwong, Governor of Chonburi Province, who served as the ceremony’s honorary chairperson. Joining him were Mrs. Phatthanant Khantisukphan, General Manager of Nong Nooch Tropical Garden Pattaya, representing Mr. Kampon Tansatcha, President of the garden; Mr. Natthawut Anuyotha, District Chief of Sattahip; and Pol. Col. Khomsan Khamtuenkaeo, Superintendent of Sattahip Police Station, who acted as witnesses to the registrations.
The main event of the day was a grand procession featuring nine couples riding atop nine majestic elephants, accompanied by a traditional Thai “khan mak” procession. Over 100 performers from the garden participated, creating a spectacular display amid the lush surroundings. More than 100 people had registered for the event overall, with registrations conducted under Thailand’s marriage equality law, which has allowed same-sex couples to legally wed since early 2025. This year’s ceremony shows Thailand’s image as an inclusive society that respects and celebrates love equally for all.
Nong Nooch Tropical Garden Pattaya crafted the activity to fuse romance with authentic Thai culture and high-quality tourism. It showcased the nation’s soft power through iconic elements such as Thai elephants, traditional processions, performing arts, and the stunning beauty of one of the world’s top botanical gardens, spanning over 60 themed sections across more than 1,700 rai (approximately 680 acres).
Participating couples received free access to explore the entire garden, the opportunity to ride elephants during their registration, and auspicious plants as keepsakes.
