The lead-up to Valentine’s Day has brought a lively buzz to local flower shops in Sri Racha, with young people eagerly purchasing bouquets to surprise their special someone on the day of love.
At Oat Flower Decor, located at the intersection in front of Assumption College Sri Racha, shop owner Ms. Sitaphat Wariswichayakit reported that flower prices have increased slightly this year due to seasonal demand. However, the hikes remain modest thanks to an influx of more affordable imports from China, which have helped stabilize the overall market and prevent sharper rises seen in some previous years.
“Many types of flowers have gone up in price for the festival, but not dramatically,” Ms. Sitaphat explained. “Vendors have been sourcing from China, where costs are lower, so prices in Thailand haven’t surged too much.”
The perennial favorite remains red roses, universally recognized as a symbol of deep love, passion, romance, and intense desire. Other popular choices include tulips, sunflowers, hydrangeas, red carnations, alstroemerias, and white lilies. Prices for these blooms have also seen only minor adjustments.
Most customers opt for pre-arranged bouquets, with a wide variety of styles available for selection. Bouquets start from as low as 100 baht and go up according to the customer’s budget and preferences.
Ms. Thorachayan Winyasukh, an 18-year-old customer shopping at the store, shared that teenagers continue to favor red roses as the go-to gift for their crushes or partners. “Young people still love giving red roses to that special person,” she said. “They also pair them with handmade cards and chocolates, which remain popular too.”
Even with the slight price increases tied to high demand during Valentine’s season, buyers can customize orders to fit their budget by informing the shop of their spending limit. Many teens use the flowers as a sweet surprise before heading out for dates, watching movies, shopping at malls, or enjoying meals together.
A check inside the shop revealed a large number of pre-orders, with bouquets ranging from a few hundred baht to several thousand. Options include fresh flowers (typically pricier for their vibrancy), artificial ones (more affordable and durable), and trendy wire-wrapped velvet creations shaped into various designs, which are gaining traction among younger buyers.
As Valentine’s Day approaches on February 14, the festive spirit in Sri Racha shows no signs of slowing, with flowers continuing to serve as a timeless expression of affection for couples and admirers alike.
