Thailand-
As Thailand prepares for its general election on Sunday, February 8th, 2026, residents and visitors are reminded that a strict nationwide ban on alcohol sales will be enforced this weekend. This applies even to foreign nationals, regardless if they can vote legally or not.
In accordance with election laws enforced by the Election Commission of Thailand, the sale, distribution, serving, or giving away of all alcoholic beverages is prohibited from 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

The measure applies to all venues, including bars, restaurants, convenience stores, supermarkets, hotels, and nightlife establishments. It is to prevent vote-buying, maintain public order, and ensure a peaceful voting process. Critics, however, say the law hurts the tourism industry and can’t see a logical reason to prohibit foreigners from purchasing, since they cannot vote.
Violators face penalties, including fines or imprisonment. Authorities urge everyone to plan accordingly and stock up in advance if needed.
This is a standard election regulation in Thailand, stay informed and vote responsibly for those eligible!
