Early this morning a 40-year-old Chinese man was fatally run over by his friend’s vehicle in the Jomtien area, resulting in his immediate death at the scene.
The accident took place at approximately 5:00 a.m. on January 28th, 2026, in front of a hotel in the Jomtien area. Pattaya City Police Lieutenant Colonel Chinawat Thisala received a report of a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian who was seriously injured.
Police coordinated with volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Foundation and medical teams from Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, who rushed to the location to provide assistance.
At the scene, authorities found the victim, identified as Mr. Li Borui, a 40-year-old Chinese national, lying motionless in a pool of blood with severe injuries and no pulse. Rescue personnel and doctors immediately performed first aid and CPR in an attempt to revive him. However, due to critical wounds, including severe head trauma and a broken neck, believed to have resulted from heavy impact, the man could not be saved and was pronounced dead on the spot.
Rescuers covered the body with a white cloth and cordoned off the area to prevent unauthorized access. Nearby, a brown Mitsubishi Pajero was found with its front end crashed into the hotel wall. The driver, Mr. Tian Hangyu, a 36-year-old Chinese national, remained at the scene in a state of shock and deep distress over the incident.
According to statements translated by a Thai female friend of the driver who acted as an interpreter, the group, including the driver, the victim, and herself, had just returned from a night out. The driver had brought the vehicle to drop off Mr. Li Borui at the hotel entrance. After completing the drop-off, the driver began reversing the car to exit the area.
At that moment, Mr. Li Borui had crouched down on the road directly in front of the hotel to tie his shoelaces. The spot was a blind area for the driver, who did not see his friend. As the vehicle reversed and began to move forward, it struck and dragged the victim, causing the fatal injuries. The driver immediately alerted authorities for help.
Police documented the scene, examined collision marks, and took the driver in for further questioning. A detailed autopsy will be conducted to determine the precise cause of death, and legal proceedings will follow in accordance with Thai law.
