Pattaya, Thailand – The Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, stands as one of the most significant festivals for Thai people of Chinese descent. It carries auspicious meanings and reflects profound cultural values, marking the celebration of the new year according to the Chinese calendar, family reunions, and expressions of piety toward ancestors through traditional rituals. This cherished occasion preserves cultural heritage, beliefs, and positive ways of life passed down through generations, while developing warm relationships and unity within families and communities.
Pattaya is home to a large population of Thai-Chinese residents who live and conduct businesses in the area. As a major tourist hub popular among both domestic and international visitors, especially during the festive season, Pattaya recognizes the potential of the Chinese New Year period to drive economic growth and generate income for the locality. In line with this, the city is set to organize the Pattaya Chinese New Year Festival 2026, officially known as the celebration of the new era for Thai people of Chinese descent.
The event aligns with Pattaya City’s 5-year development plan (2023–2027), focusing on promoting economic innovation and environmentally friendly urban development. It also supports Chonburi Province’s strategic plan, particularly Strategy 2, which wants to elevate the province into a high-quality international tourism destination.
The festival stresses cultural tourism, featuring a range of activities such as Thai-Chinese art and cultural performances, beautiful traditions of Thai-Chinese communities, festive decorations throughout the city creating an authentic Chinese New Year atmosphere, and more. These elements want to promote and disseminate cultural heritage while enhancing Pattaya’s image as a cultural tourism spot, known both domestically and internationally.
Members of the public and tourists can enjoy and take photos amid the festive decorations and Chinese New Year ambiance from February 10th to the 24th, 2026. The main event and key highlights are scheduled for February 17, 2026, at central locations in Pattaya. Attendees can look forward to performances by high-quality singers, a variety of music genres, Thai and Chinese cultural shows, the Boy – Girl Chinese Pattaya 2026 contest, lion and dragon dances, and sacred offering ceremonies to pay respects to deities and ancestors for good fortune and blessings.
