PATTAYA, Thailand– An 86-year-old Canadian national tragically died after plunging from the 14th floor of a high-rise condominium in the Jomtien area this morning, January 15th, 2026.
The incident was reported around 7:30 a.m. to Pattaya City Police. Officers, along with investigators, tourist police, and rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation, rushed to the scene at a 27-storey condominium in Moo 12.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered the body of the deceased, identified as a Canadian citizen, lying on the ground in the parking area beside the building.
The man had been residing in a room on the 14th floor of the condominium.
Police inspected the room and found no signs of a struggle or theft.
A 25-year-old night-shift security officer at the condominium, Mr. Isra Srisaad, told police that the victim’s Thai wife had left the room around 5:00 a.m. as usual to visit their garden secondary home. A caregiver typically arrived around 6:00 a.m. to look after Mr. Rothweiler. When the caregiver reached the unit and could not find him inside, they searched the premises and looked over the rear balcony railing, only to discover the body on the ground.
Preliminary police investigation points to suicide as the likely cause, with the suspected motive being severe health issues that had been overwhelming the elderly man.
The body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science at Police General Hospital for a thorough autopsy. Authorities will continue questioning close associates, including the wife and caregiver, to determine the exact circumstances and confirm the cause of death.
This is the fourth fall of a person from a high building in Pattaya in roughly a week, with three in the past three days alone.
Yesterday, a young French tourist sustained serious injuries after falling from his fifth floor hotel balcony while intoxicated in what is now believed to be an accident.
Last week, a Chinese tourist fell from a hotel in the South Pattaya area under mysterious circumstances.
