Authorities in Pattaya have obtained an arrest warrant for a 30-year-old Chinese national, identified as Mr. Gong Gaopeng, following a daring robbery in which he allegedly lured, tied up, and attacked a female Chinese real estate agent, stealing over 31,000 baht and her mobile phone as we reported here yesterday.
The Pattaya Provincial Court approved the warrant (No. 15/2569) on January 12th, 2026, charging Mr. Gong with robbery involving violence or threats, use of a weapon at night, and unlawful detention and restraint. The charges stem from an incident on the night of January 11th, 2026, where the suspect reportedly used scissors to threaten the victim before binding her entire body with duct tape.
According to police investigations, Mr. Gong Gaopeng, seen below, entered Thailand on December 23rd, 2025, on a 60-day tourist visa, declaring his accommodation in the Yannawa area of Bangkok’s Sathon district.
The suspect posed as a potential buyer interested in a 3-million-baht house. He first contacted the victim, Miss Yang Wang, 35, a Chinese real estate sales agent working legally in Thailand with a work permit (also known as “Wendy”), through her agency’s application on January 8th, 2026. They met in person near a major shopping mall on Pattaya Second Road on Saturday, January 10th to discuss his interest in homes and suitable locations.
On the night of the incident, Mr. Gong tricked Miss Yang into driving him to view the actual property. After the viewing, as they exited the housing estate, he allegedly pulled out scissors, threatened her, forced her to continue driving, bound her from head to toe with duct tape, and coerced her to transfer money via the WeChat app — amounting to 6,996 Chinese yuan (approximately 31,000 baht) — before taking her mobile phone.
Pol. Col. Natthaphon Phongsuk Sakun, Chief of Nong Prue Police Station, along with investigative teams from Chonburi Provincial Police and Chonburi Immigration Police, held a strategy meeting at noon on January 12th to plan the pursuit, including reviewing CCTV footage to trace the suspect’s escape route.
A close friend and colleague of the victim, referred to as Miss Dear (pseudonym), 32, spoke to reporters, describing Miss Yang’s ongoing trauma. She remains in a constant state of fear and shock, with visible injuries from the assault on her body. Miss Yang has been working legally with a work visa and work permit in Thailand since 2024 as a real estate agent, which is not a protected category for Thai nationals only.
Miss Dear noted that the victim initially had no suspicions during early contacts starting January 8th, but grew wary when the suspect refused daytime viewings, claiming he was busy visiting tourism attractions, leading to an evening viewing. The attack occurred immediately after leaving the property, before they even passed the estate’s security gate.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on Mr. Gong Gaopeng’s whereabouts to contact Nong Prue Police Station. The victim has called for swift action to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice.
Police continue to intensify their manhunt, with cooperation across multiple units to locate the fugitive. The picture of the suspect has been openly released by Thai police.
