Pattaya, Thailand – January 8th, 2026

Frustrated residents and long-term expats in Pattaya are once again voicing strong complaints about loud, modified motorbikes speeding through streets and illegal late-night racing, which severely disrupt sleep and the city’s peace and quiet.

The issue, often linked to tourists and Thai teenagers, particularly groups renting high-powered bikes, has escalated in recent years, with illegal exhaust modifications creating deafening noise, especially during early morning hours or late nights.

Locals are calling on authorities to enforce stricter measures, including regular checkpoints, fines for illegal modifications, and holding motorbike rental shops accountable for renting to unlicensed or reckless riders.

While police have conducted periodic crackdowns, seizing bikes and promising renewed action, residents say consistent enforcement is needed to restore tranquility to Thailand’s popular resort city.

The Pattaya News has had multiple complaints in recent weeks, with many residents specifically saying that the situation seems to have worsened over the holiday season. Some areas in particular called out for much needed enforcement is the Pratumnak Soi 5 area, Jomtien Second Road, and Soi Yensabai.
