Pattaya, Thailand – January 4th, 2026
A 51-year-old Thai man was injured in the early hours of Saturday after allegedly running a red light while intoxicated and colliding with an 18-wheel trailer truck at a busy intersection in northern Pattaya.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on January 4th at the traffic lights near the motorway junction in Nongprue.
Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation in Pattaya responded to reports of a motorcycle crashing into a large truck, with one person injured.
At the scene, rescuers found the victim, identified as Mr. Buchit Wamaket, aged 51, suffering from abrasions across his body. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Paramedics provided initial first aid before transporting him to Pattaya Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
Nearby, a purple Honda Air Blade motorcycle was discovered severely damaged, with its front end crumpled and wedged under the wheels of an Isuzu 18-wheeler truck registered in Songkhla province.
When questioned, Mr. Buchit was incoherent and spoke erratically, insisting that the traffic light was green in his direction. However, authorities reviewed CCTV footage from the intersection, which clearly showed the motorcycle running the red light and slamming directly into the midsection of the moving truck.
Police are continuing their investigation and plan to proceed with legal action in accordance with traffic laws, including potential charges related to reckless driving and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
This accident comes amid heightened road safety concerns during the ongoing New Year holiday period in Thailand.
