Pattaya, Thailand– A video (below) of a modified pickup truck accelerating and emitting thick black smoke has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread anger among netizens. The incident occurred in full view of more than 100 tourists near the entrance to Walking Street, a popular nightlife area along Pattaya’s beachfront road.
The event took place around 3:30 a.m., according to a tip received by reporters from a concerned citizen. The truck, described as a customized “racing” vehicle, was seen driving at high speed through the area, revving its engine and releasing dense black exhaust fumes, causing distress to pedestrians and visitors.
A reporter later spoke with the individual who recorded the clip, who requested anonymity for privacy reasons. The witness told The Pattaya News about riding along the beachfront road when the modified pickup approached rapidly from behind.
“The truck was speeding and suddenly released a cloud of black smoke, making it impossible to see the road ahead,” the witness said. “I quickly grabbed my phone to film it as evidence.”
The citizen expressed frustration over the driver’s disregard for public safety and the environment, adding that such behavior tarnishes Pattaya’s reputation as a premier tourist destination. “I urge authorities to track down the driver and take legal action,” the witness appealed. “This not only endangers people but also damages the image of our tourism city, especially in front of so many foreign visitors.”
The video has fueled heated discussions online, with many criticizing the act as reckless and harmful to air quality in a bustling tourist hub. No official response from local authorities has been reported yet regarding any investigation into the incident.
