Royal Thai Army Strongly Denies Cambodian Claims of Using Poison Gas, Releases Statement

Thai Army refutes Cambodian Ministry of Defense, accuses Cambodia of continuously spreading distorted information despite being the party that violates all agreements, launches military operations, uses human shields and ancient temples as cover, disregarding international rules. In response to the statement issued today (10 Dec 2025) by the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense claiming that “Thai forces fired poisonous gas (toxic smoke) into the area of O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, which is a civilian residential area of Cambodia. This act constitutes a severe indiscriminate attack by Thai military forces and is a violation of international humanitarian law” —Major General Winthai Suwari, Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army, disclosed regarding the above case:“We urge Cambodia to stop repeatedly releasing fake news or distorted information in order to deceive its own citizens and the international community. The facts on the ground clearly show that Cambodian troops have been the ones initiating operations against Thai forces all along the Thai-Cambodian border since 7 December 2025. They have indiscriminately fired small arms and heavy weapons into Thai territory, targeting both community areas and medical facilities. For example, this morning it was confirmed that Cambodia fired BM-21 rockets into areas near Phanom Dong Rak Hospital in Surin province as well as other community zones, showing complete disregard for human rights and international norms. These incidents have caused injuries and deaths among Thai soldiers and have disrupted the daily lives of Thai citizens in many border areas. This constitutes a threat to national security, compelling Thailand to exercise its legitimate right of self-defense and to respond proportionately to the situation. We affirm that Thai operations are targeted solely at military objectives that are affecting Thailand. The Royal Thai Army categorically rejects the allegation that Thailand fired poisonous gas or toxic smoke at Cambodian forces, an accusation made without any supporting evidence.Furthermore, regarding Cambodia’s claim that its civilians, territory, and important ancient sites such as Preah Vihear Temple and Ta Kwai Temple have been damaged — intelligence evidence confirms that Cambodia has been using civilian communities, casino buildings, and ancient temples as cover for military operations and as human shields, showing no concern for the safety of its own people. Most recently, Thai forces detected that Cambodian troops are using the Preah Vihear Temple itself as a military operating base, installing grenade launchers, artillery pieces, and anti-drone systems in preparation for attacks against Thailand. This is clear evidence that Cambodia places no value on or respect for this historical site and is instead using it as one of its tools in military operations. The Royal Thai Army condemns Cambodia’s actions, which violate every ceasefire agreement and every aspect of international humanitarian law. We call on Cambodia to immediately cease all activities that could have widespread impact unrelated to military operations and that run counter to the path toward peace, as such actions will only escalate the border conflict further.”………………………………………………………Public Relations Center, Royal Thai Army
