Royal Thai Army Accuses Cambodia of Turning Preah Vihear Temple into Military Base

Bangkok, December 10th, 2025 – Thailand’s Second Army Area Command reported Tuesday that Cambodian troops have converted parts of the historic Preah Vihear temple complex into a fortified military position, complete with anti-drone systems and heavy weaponry.

According to Thai military sources, Cambodian forces installed radar-equipped surveillance cameras, GPS-spoofing devices, and electronic jammers on the ancient site. The equipment was allegedly used to disrupt Thai drone operations, track troop movements along the border, and serve as a firing platform for grenade launchers.

In response, Thai troops destroyed a crane in the disputed area that was being used to hoist the anti-drone and jamming systems into position, the command stated.

The 11th-century Hindu temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has long been a flashpoint in the Thai-Cambodian border dispute. Ownership of the promontory on which the temple sits was awarded to Cambodia by the International Court of Justice in 1962, though surrounding land remains contested. Thailand does not officially recognize the Court.

Neither the Cambodian Ministry of Defense nor the Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok has issued an official response to the Thai allegations at the time of publication.
