Frustrated residents of Soi Mab SongâNong Yai 1 in the Nong Prue sub-district are demanding urgent action after they say a road construction project was abandoned by the contractor more than a year ago, turning the 300-metre stretch into a hazardous obstacle course of deep potholes, permanent flooding, and collapsed traffic signs.

The unfinished road, which connects Soi Ban Mab Song and the wastewater treatment plant soi while running parallel to Motorway Route 7, shows clear signs of long-term neglect. Temporary diversion signs and road-closed barriers lie scattered and broken, with no visible work having taken place for many months.

âConstruction started in 2024 â even before the main Mab SongâNong Yai road â but now, at the end of 2025, itâs still not finished,â said Pat, 38, a local resident who guided local Pattaya media reporters through the site. âThe contractor simply disappeared a year ago. Weâre suffering badly, especially the restaurants here as customers canât reach us anymore.â

During the visit, several residents stopped their vehicles to voice the same complaints to media, that the delay has become intolerable, and the complete absence of project signage showing start and completion dates has left the community in the dark about when â or if â work will ever resume.

At night the situation becomes outright dangerous. With no street lighting and deep potholes often hidden under standing water that reaches the level of drainage manhole covers, motorbike and car accidents have become a regular occurrence.
âIt seems like every single day someone falls or damages their vehicle,â one resident said. âWeâre terrified there will be a serious injury or worse if nothing is done soon.â

Locals are pleading with Nong Prue Municipality and relevant authorities to take immediate action, at the very least by bringing in gravel to fill the worst holes and raise the road surface to the level of the drainage covers. They also urged the mayor of Nong Prue to intervene personally and resolve a problem that has dragged on for several years.
As of press time, no response has been received from the municipality regarding when the abandoned project will be restarted or completed.
