Pattaya City Accelerates Underground Power Cable Project Ahead of International Fireworks Festival

PATTAYA, November 27th, 2025 – Mr. Manoch Nongyai, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City, chaired the 11th progress meeting (Fiscal Year 2025) for Phase 1 of the Major Cities Electricity System Development Project (Pattaya section) at Meeting Room 251, Pattaya City Hall, at 13:30 yesterday.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Banlue Kullavanich, President of Pattaya City Council; Mr. Worapot Phongphalee, Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization Councilor for Banglamung District; Mr. Chukiat Nongyai, Assistant Secretary to the Mayor of Pattaya; heads of government departments; and representatives from relevant agencies.

The primary objective was to expedite all ongoing works to ensure smooth operations in preparation for the Pattaya International Fireworks Festival 2025, scheduled for 28–29 November 2025.

A key agenda item was the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) Pattaya Branch’s request to excavate roads along Yin Yom Beach for the construction of a high-voltage underground cable duct bank by the PEA Region 2 (Central) Construction Division in Chonburi Province. After thorough discussion, the meeting resolved to reject the conventional “open-cut” excavation method due to its widespread impact on traffic and road surfaces. Instead, the project will adopt the pipe-jacking (horizontal directional drilling) technique to minimize disruption.

Mr. Worapot Phongphalee further urged the Provincial Waterworks Authority to update all infrastructure plans in the Geographic Information System (GIS) so that every agency can access real-time data, avoid repeated excavation, and coordinate works efficiently. He confirmed that Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization will continue to allocate budget support for integrated city development that directly benefits residents.

All agencies were instructed to urgently clear construction sites and fully restore road surfaces in time for the influx of tourists attending the two-day fireworks festival starting today.
