Pattaya, Chonburi – November 20th, 2025
A 58-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday morning after apparently suffering a medical emergency, losing consciousness, and falling from his moving bike on North Pattaya Road.
Emergency services from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation received the call at 6:36 a.m. reporting a fatal motorcycle accident. Rescue volunteers and police led by Pol. Lt. Tharaphon Katanyu, deputy investigation officer at Pattaya Police Station, rushed to the scene.
Officers found the body of Mr. Phanomphon So-ngoen, 58, lying in the middle of the roadway. The body was covered with a white sheet and traffic was halted in the area to prevent further accidents.
His blue Yamaha Mio motorcycle (license plate 1 กจ 8182, registered in Trat province) had veered onto the sidewalk and lightly struck a pedestrian, 47-year-old Ms. Sumalee Setthawong, who was walking along the footpath. She sustained minor injuries and was given first aid at the scene before being transported to a local hospital.
Ms. Sumalee told rescuers she saw the victim riding alone when he suddenly slumped forward and tumbled from the bike. The unmanned motorcycle continued forward, skidding onto the sidewalk and colliding with her. She said she was unable to get out of the way in time.
Police believe Mr. Phanomphon likely suffered a sudden onset of an underlying medical condition while riding, causing him to lose consciousness and fall. The impact with the road surface is believed to be the cause of death.
The body has been sent for a full post-mortem examination at Banglamung Hospital to confirm the exact cause of death and to check for any pre-existing health conditions.
