Sattahip-
A 32-year-old woman fell asleep at the wheel this week, slamming her orange Nissan March into the rear of a Honda Scoopy motorcycle on Sukhumvit Road, killing the 47-year-old rider instantly and leaving onlookers stunned by the vehicles’ near-identical license plates.
The collision occurred at 1:00 p.m. near Pa Wan Restaurant in Moo 1. Police Lieutenant Colonel Mantian Kasodorn, Na Jomtien Police investigator, and Sawang Rojana Thammasathan rescue units arrived to find:
– Orange Nissan March vaulted onto the sidewalk, crumpled against a pile of rocks beside the eatery. Driver Ms. Kanya Jirasakdakorn, 32, complained of neck and chest pain. Medics provided first aid before rushing her to Wat Yanasangwararam Hospital ER.
– Blue-black Honda Scoopy hurled 30 meters, wedged under a parked pickup. Rider Mr. Phonthep Suwannachat, 47, lay dead on the sidewalk amid grieving witnesses.
Shaken and trembling, Ms. Kanya told police she was driving home to Bang Saray from Bangsaen when she dozed off. She awoke to the violent impact, her car then veering onto the rocks.
Investigators documented the scene, collected CCTV footage, and interviewed witnesses to determine the exact cause.
The tragedy deepened local sorrow, with social media buzzing over the uncanny license plate coincidence: 7110 and 1170, identical digits, merely reversed.
