Sriracha, Chonburi – November 11th, 2025– A 62-year-old grilled-squid seller, crushed by mounting debts and dwindling income, bludgeoned his wife, daughter, 1-year-old granddaughter, and 82-year-old mother-in-law to death before hanging himself in the bathroom, police revealed Tuesday.
The grisly discovery unfolded around 4:00 p.m. in Moo 5 in the Sri Racha district, after relatives in another province lost contact for days and alerted Nong Kham Police Station.
Patrol officers arrived to find the gates unlocked but all doors bolted from inside. A familiar motorized sidecar—the vendor’s daily market rig—sat idle out front alongside uncollected parcels. Neighbors reported the five-person household had vanished 2–3 days earlier.

A foul odor led police to peer through windows: one body lay under mosquito netting. Relatives were summoned to force entry.
Inside, horror compounded:
– Mr. Somjin Phumchaisuwan, 62, hanged in the bathroom.
– Mrs. Thatsawan Phumchaisuwan, 60 (wife), bludgeoned in the front bedroom.
– Ms. Sukanya Phumchaisuwan, 21 (daughter) and baby Sirikanya Phumchaisuwan, 14 months (granddaughter), slain together in a rear bedroom.
– Mrs. Namjai Naknaen, 82 (mother-in-law), killed on a mattress under the netting.
Each victim—except Somjin—suffered fatal skull fractures from a palm-sized stone item found at the scene.
A close friend of the family, Ms. Kalaya Phlai-muang, told police she last saw Somjin on Sunday night around 9:00 p.m. He waved from inside, claiming illness, but refused to come out. “He was always kind and cheerful,” she said. “He sold squid and rice noodles at the local market every day.”

Investigators believe financial stress triggered the rampage. Somjin’s earnings had plummeted, leaving the family unable to cover basic expenses. In despair, he allegedly crushed the skulls of his sleeping relatives before taking his own life.
Forensic teams from Police General Hospital, Laem Chabang Hospital medics, and Nong Kham detectives processed the scene. Sawang Prateep Sri Racha Rescue volunteers transported all five bodies for autopsy at the Police Forensic Institute.
The case remains under investigation; no suicide note was found.
