Laem Chabang, Chonburi – November 3rd, 2025 – A 39-year-old municipal employee was discovered dead on a hammock behind his workplace on Monday morning, three days after being evicted from his home by his wife due to chronic alcohol consumption.
Rescue workers from the Sawang Prateep Sri Racha Foundation received a report around 8:30 a.m. of a death at staff quarters behind Laem Chabang City Municipality in the Thung Sukhla sub-district. Police from Laem Chabang Police Station and investigative units were dispatched to the scene.
The deceased was identified as Mr. See Thongphao, a technician with the municipality’s engineering division. His body was found lying on a hammock next to a seating area, legs crossed, left arm dangling beside the hammock. Rigor mortis had set in, with authorities estimating time of death at least 10 hours prior. No signs of foul play were observed.
Present at the scene were the victim’s wife, Mrs. Nit Suriya, 60, and several coworkers who provided statements to police.
Mr. Sakda Chaimueang, 42, a colleague who discovered the body, told officers he arrived for work and saw Mr. See asleep on the hammock. After shaking the hammock and calling his name without response, he touched the body and realized it was cold and stiff. He immediately alerted supervisors.
Mr. Sakda said Mr. See had been staying at the workplace since Friday—three days—after a domestic dispute. “He argued with his wife, and she wouldn’t let him back in the house,” he explained. Mr. See regularly drank with friends, and after being locked out, he had no money for alcohol. On Friday, Mr. Sakda gave him 100 baht for expenses before the weekend break.
Mrs. Nit confirmed her husband’s heavy drinking, saying he often stayed out with friends for three to four days at a time. “I asked why he didn’t come home—there’s rice and liquor at home. Why stay with friends?” she said. Frustrated, she packed his clothes into a bag and delivered them to him at the workplace on Friday after finding him still drinking.
She did not check on him over the weekend due to her market vending schedule. The couple frequently argued over his drinking. Mrs. Nit noted that when Mr. See decided to quit, he would stop cold turkey. She speculated the sudden cessation after heavy consumption may have triggered shock.
Police conducted an initial examination and interviewed relatives. Preliminary findings suggest death resulted from an underlying medical condition or abrupt alcohol withdrawal. With no suspicions from the family, the body was released to rescue volunteers for transfer to a hospital for autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Relatives will proceed with religious funeral rites thereafter.
