Pattaya Runs Short on Black and White Fabrics as Residents Rush to Buy for Mourning Tributes to Her Royal Majesty the Queen Mother

PATTAYA – Shops in Pattaya and the surrounding Banglamung district are facing a severe shortage of black and white fabrics as residents flock to purchase materials to decorate buildings and sew mourning attire in honor of Her Royal Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.

At Tang Thai Hong fabric store in Naklua New Market, long queues formed as customers selected rolls of plain white and black cloth to adorn government offices, private homes, and public spaces. The surge in demand has depleted black fabric stocks entirely, leaving suppliers struggling to keep up.

Malree Suwatthaphon, owner of Tang Thai Hong, told The Pattaya News reporters that demand for black-and-white fabrics has skyrocketed across Pattaya, driven by widespread tributes to the Queen Mother. “Many areas are completely out of stock,” she said. “People are using the cloth for bows under royal portraits, building decorations, and sewing formal black outfits.”

Despite the boom in orders, Tang Thai Hong has maintained regular pricing with no markups. “We’re rushing additional shipments from factories, but production capacity is limited,” Malree explained. “We’re sourcing high-quality alternatives from other suppliers to ensure uninterrupted service for our customers.”

The store continues to offer premium silk and graded fabrics for those tailoring mourning suits or special garments. Tang Thai Hong remains open during normal hours and has pledged to replenish black-and-white stocks continuously to meet ongoing local demand.
