Pattaya, October 29th, 2025 – The Pattaya City Council’s Tourism and Culture Committee convened today to revise the format of major year-end events, ensuring they align with the national mourning period for Her Royal Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, while continuing to drive tourism and economic growth.
The 8th meeting of the 2025 session, held at 1:30 p.m. in Meeting Room 251 of Pattaya City Hall, was chaired by Mr. Banjong Bandasak, Chairman of the Tourism and Culture Committee. Attendees included Deputy Mayor Mr. Krisana Boonsawat, committee members from the Pattaya City Council, the Secretary to the Council President, department heads, and relevant officials.

The discussions focused on adapting three flagship events scheduled for late 2025—the Pattaya International Fireworks Festival which has already been announced as proceeding as a tribute to Her Royal Majesty the Queen Mother, Pattaya International Jazz Festival, and New Year’s Eve celebrations—to reflect solemnity and respect during the mourning period while balancing tourism. These events are vital to Pattaya’s reputation and economy, attracting international visitors and generating significant revenue.

The Pattaya City Mayor directed that the events be restructured to embody dignity, simplicity, and loyalty to the late Queen Mother, while preserving the city’s identity as a premier tourist destination. The committee also reviewed tourism promotion activities planned for early 2026.

Key adjustments include:- Prioritizing elegance, meaning, and reverence over entertainment and festivity.
– Using subdued, serene decorations that evoke remembrance of the Queen Mother’s legacy.
– Ensuring artistic performances, music, and light-and-sound displays are gentle, dignified, and respectful.
– Coordinating with relevant agencies to communicate the events’ intent clearly to the public and tourists, showing Pattaya’s commitment to respect while sustaining its role as an economic driver.

Committee members expressed concerns about event appropriateness, adequate restroom facilities for visitors, and continuous multi-channel promotion. They encouraged attendees to wear Thai royal-fashioned attire, traditional Thai fabrics, or modest clothing in keeping with the solemn tone.“Pattaya remains committed to economic progress without compromising respect during this period of mourning,” said Mr. Banjong. “These events will not only sustain tourism but also provide an opportunity for visitors to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s enduring legacy.”The city wants to position Pattaya as a destination where remembrance and responsible tourism coexist, showing national pride and international appeal.
