Sriracha, Thailand – A dramatic fire engulfed a third-floor apartment in a commercial building in central Sriracha, forcing a resident to flee to the rooftop, where he was later rescued by emergency services. The blaze, suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, was reported at around 10:00 AM on October 26th, 2025.
The fire broke out in a room located at the back of a three-story commercial building opposite a well-known school on 9 Kilo Road. The Surasak Municipality’s disaster prevention and mitigation center received the emergency call and dispatched four fire trucks from the Surasak and Sriracha municipalities, along with rescue teams from Sawang Prateep Sriracha and Police Sub-Lieutenant Sukanya Yupapin from Sriracha Police Station.
Upon arrival, firefighters found intense flames raging inside the third-floor apartment. They quickly deployed water to contain the blaze, while residents of the building evacuated to safety outside. The apartment’s occupant, identified as Wisit Phakdeesuwan, 50, was found stranded on the rooftop, choking on smoke and calling for help. Rescue teams used ventilation fans to clear the thick smoke from the building before safely bringing Wisit down. He suffered only minor smoke inhalation and was given first aid on-site before being transported to a hospital for further treatment.
Wisit spoke with The Pattaya News about the terrifying ordeal, explaining that he had been on the rooftop when he smelled smoke. Upon returning to his third-floor apartment, he saw smoke billowing from his room. He opened the door to find flames already spreading and attempted to extinguish the fire with a chemical fire extinguisher, but the blaze was too intense. As smoke filled the room, making it difficult to breathe, he fled back to the rooftop and shouted for help. He suspects the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
The building’s owner, Sukkaew Chuta, revealed that Wisit had also rushed downstairs to alert her about the fire. She accompanied him back to the apartment with a fire extinguisher but was overwhelmed by the sight of the flames.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within approximately 30 minutes. No other injuries were reported. Authorities suspect an electrical short circuit as the likely cause, but a forensic investigation will be conducted to determine the exact origin of the fire.
