Pattaya, Chonburi Province – A large python met its demise after devouring an entire cat, leaving its bloated body unable to move, in a dramatic incident reported on Wednesday evening.
At around 7:00 p.m. on October 16th, 2025, Pattaya’s Ground Disaster Prevention Radio Center received a report from local residents about a massive python coiled up in a grassy ditch beside the road in Soi Na Kluea 14. Rescue teams were the dispatched to investigate.

Upon arrival, a crowd of curious villagers had gathered, pointing out the snake’s location to officials. Inspectors discovered a python approximately 3 meters long, motionless and coiled in the grass. Its midsection was severely swollen and bulging, indicating it had recently swallowed a large cat whole.

Rescue personnel approached cautiously to capture the reptile, but the python showed no signs of fleeing or resistance, allowing for an easy apprehension. Tragically, the snake died shortly afterward. Authorities believe the cause was the oversized meal: the python had attempted to swallow and digest the cat but became too immobilized to escape into the nearby forest, leading to its fatal exhaustion.

Atthasit Thar Fuangcharoen, a 44-year-old local resident, shared insights with reporters. He noted that the same python had been spotted frequently over the past one to two months, but it always evaded capture when officials were called. During this period, villagers reported dozens of pet cats vanishing without a trace. “We suspect this snake was responsible for all those missing cats,” Atthasit said. “It finally met its end, coiled up quietly in the roadside grass.”
Wildlife experts often warn that pythons in urban fringes like Pattaya can pose risks to pets and livestock, but overeating large prey can lead to immobility and death, as seen in this case.
