PATTAYA, Thailand – A violent domestic incident took place in Pattaya on October 13th, 2025, leaving a woman seriously injured after her husband allegedly slashed her throat during a drunken dispute. The incident occurred at 4:00 PM in a makeshift shelter in Soi Boon Samphan 14.
The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation received an emergency call reporting that a woman had been attacked with a knife. Rescue volunteers, alongside officers from the Banglamung Police Station, rushed to the scene. They found Ms. S, (Name withheld under domestic violence victim editorial policy) 56, with a severe gash on the right side of her neck, narrowly missing her windpipe and a potential fatal injury by less than 2 centimeters. The wound, approximately one inch wide, was bleeding profusely. Rescuers provided first aid before rushing her to Pattaya Memorial Hospital, but she was expected to make a full recovery.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Somchat, 55, Ms. S’s husband, was present at the scene and visibly intoxicated. He did not flee and led police to the weapon—a sharp knife, 20-30 centimeters long—used in the attack.
Ms. S, who was still able to speak despite her wounds, told police that she and Somchat, her husband of over two years, were drinking beer together when he became agitated and slapped her face. Her 27-year-old son, Mr. Kittisak, witnessed the assault and pushed Somchat away to protect his mother. In response, Somchat grabbed a knife, intending to attack Kittisak. Ms. S attempted to intervene, but Somchat slashed her throat. Enraged, Kittisak punched Somchat before neighbors stepped in to stop the altercation. Kittisak then fled the scene on his motorcycle to calm down at a friend’s house.
Ms. S expressed her frustration, stating that Somchat frequently became violent when drunk, and she could no longer tolerate the abuse. She vowed to press charges to the fullest extent of the law.
Somchat admitted to the act but claimed it was unintentional. He alleged that Kittisak had punched him first, prompting him to grab the knife in self-defense. While swinging the weapon, he accidentally struck his wife, causing the injury. He expressed remorse for the incident.
Kittisak, speaking to The Pattaya News reporters by phone, confirmed he was staying at a friend’s house to avoid further confrontation. He described hearing a heated argument between his mother and Somchat, followed by witnessing Somchat slap her. After pushing Somchat away, he was shocked to see his mother bleeding from a neck wound minutes later. In a fit of anger, he attacked Somchat before being restrained by neighbors. Kittisak admitted that Somchat’s recurring violence toward his mother had become unbearable.
Police detained Somchat at Nongprue Police Station to sober up and await further action. Authorities are waiting for Ms. S to formally press charges before proceeding with legal measures.
