Chonburi, Thailand – September 13th, 2025
On September 12th, 2025, the Takhian Tia Subdistrict Municipality in Chonburi Province officially launched a Medical Equipment Center dedicated to the rehabilitation of elderly individuals, people with disabilities, and those with dependency conditions. The opening ceremony, held at the municipal office, was presided over by Mr. Mitchai Kapop Tam, Mayor of Takhian Tia Subdistrict Municipality.

The event featured a report on the project’s objectives by Mr. Wachira Suea, Deputy Mayor, and was attended by key figures including Mr. Narongrit Prasittinark, Municipal Secretary; Mr. Khwanyuen Kapop Tam, Deputy Mayor; municipal executives; department heads; staff from the Takhian Tia Health Promoting Hospital; school teachers; the district chief (Kamnan); village headmen; elderly residents with dependency conditions; individuals with disabilities; members of the Takhian Tia Women’s Development Group; and public health and environmental officers.

The initiative aligns with the Municipality Act B.E. 2496 (1953), Section 50(7), which mandates subdistrict municipalities to promote the development of women, children, youth, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Additionally, the Decentralization Act B.E. 2542 (1999), Section 16, empowers municipalities to provide public services for the benefit of local residents, including social welfare, quality-of-life improvements for vulnerable groups, and public health services such as family health and medical care.

A recent survey revealed that Takhian Tia Subdistrict is home to 530 individuals requiring specialized support: 457 people with disabilities, 56 elderly individuals with dependency conditions, and 23 bedridden patients. Many of these residents lack access to essential medical equipment for rehabilitation due to the high cost of such devices.

To address this gap, the Takhian Tia Subdistrict Municipality established the Medical Equipment Center to provide free access to critical rehabilitation tools, reducing financial burdens on families and improving access to assistive technology. The center offers equipment such as hospital beds, air mattresses, wheelchairs, and walkers for loan and repair. The project is supported by funding from the Chonburi Provincial Rehabilitation Fund.

The center aims to enhance the quality of life for vulnerable residents by ensuring equitable access to necessary medical devices, fostering independence, and supporting rehabilitation efforts. For more information or to access services, residents can contact the Takhian Tia Subdistrict Municipality office.
