Pattaya, Thailand – On September 8th, 2025, Chonburi Governor Thawatchai Srithong conducted an urgent inspection of flood-affected areas in Pattaya following heavy overnight rainfall that caused widespread flooding, disrupting residents and tourists.
Accompanied by Banglamung District Chief Patcharapat Sritanyanon, Pattaya City Deputy Mayor Kiatisak Sriwongchai, and other officials, the governor assessed the situation at the Khao Talo pumping station and the railway road, ordering immediate road restoration, additional water pumps, and support personnel to mitigate further damage.

Governor Thawatchai reported that the heavy rain, measuring over 50 millimeters in Pattaya, overwhelmed drainage systems despite pumps managing to divert water to the sea within two hours. Low-lying areas, including Khao Noi, Khao Talo, and South Pattaya’s Sukhumvit Road, faced recurring flooding due to rapid runoff from nearby hills. While locals avoided these routes, some tourists were caught off-guard by the inundation.

Efforts to address Pattaya’s flooding issues have been ongoing, with the number of flood-prone areas reduced from over 20 to nine through structural improvements. A major 9-billion-baht project by the Department of Public Works, including water retention initiatives to slow runoff, is currently underway.

In one residential area behind the Four Regions Floating Market, flooding persisted due to a disabled city pump, caused by stolen electrical cables. Private companies stepped in with additional pumps, while Pattaya City installed generators to power drainage efforts. With light rain continuing, authorities remain on high alert to monitor the situation.
