CHONBURI, Thailand – Futsal, the fast-paced, small-sided cousin of football, is gaining widespread popularity across the globe, captivating players and fans of all ages and genders. From grassroots community matches to national tournaments, the sport has become a place for young talent. One such rising star is 12-year-old Ravi Homchuen, nicknamed “Little Reed” (Ton Or), a futsal striker from Nongprue Municipal School in Chonburi, whose dazzling skills are lighting up the future of Thai futsal.
Born on April 7th, 2013, Ravi is a sixth-grader at Nongprue Municipal Kindergarten School in Banglamung.. Playing as a striker for her school’s under-14 girls’ futsal team, she has already made a name for herself in the competitive world of youth futsal. Inspired by her older brother, Veeraphat Homchuen (Earth), a 17-year-old futsal player for Huathanon Wittaya School, and her father’s love for the sport, Ravi took up futsal at age 10. Initially uninterested in football, she grew to love the game through her family’s passion and her own dedication, quickly earning a spot on her school’s team.
Ravi’s talent has brought pride to her family and school through a string of impressive achievements. In 2023 and 2024, she helped her team secure silver medals as runners-up in the Eastern Region Local Administrative Organization (LAO) Student Futsal Championships for girls under 12, earning the right to represent the region at the national level. At the national LAO Student Futsal Championships, Ravi and her team clinched bronze medals in both 2023 and 2024, showcasing her consistency on the big stage. In 2025, she added a bronze medal in the under-14 girls’ category at the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) Student Games and a gold medal as champions in the Pattaya Youth Futsal Championship for the same age group.
Currently, Ravi is in intensive training at her school’s futsal camp, preparing for the 2025 Eastern Region LAO Student Futsal Championships in Rayong this November. Under the guidance of coaches Wisarut Yencham (Coach Bas) and Akom Jaemjamrat (Coach Fat), she trains daily from 5:00 AM, returning home only in the evenings to eat and prepare before rejoining the camp by 8:30 PM. Her rigorous schedule reflects her determination to excel.
With her skill, drive, and growing list of accolades, “Little Reed” Ravi Homchuen is a name to watch in Thai futsal, a shining star with a bright future ahead.
