Body of Woman Found in Suitcase in Banglamung Area Reservoir Near Pattaya, Police Suspect Murder

Pattaya, Thailand – In a shocking discovery, a black suitcase chained shut and floating in the Bang Phai Reservoir, located on the border between Banglamung District and Ban Chang District in Rayong, was found by national rowing team athletes during early morning training on September 3rd. Upon opening the suitcase, authorities were horrified to discover the body of a woman, estimated to be 30-40 years old, naked from the waist up and curled up inside. Police estimate she had been dead for at least five days. Nine new dumbbell plates, weighing a total of 15.75 kilograms, were found inside the suitcase, believed to have been used to weigh it down in an attempt to sink it. Authorities suspect the case is a murder with an attempted cover-up.

On the same afternoon, Police Major General Theerachai Chamnanmor, Commander of the Region 2 Crime Suppression Division, visited the scene and convened a meeting with investigative teams from the Region 2 Provincial Police, Chonburi Provincial Police, Huai Yai Police Station, and the Forensic Division to strategize on solving the case. Orders were issued to review CCTV footage from entry and exit points around the reservoir for the past week. Additionally, investigators are tracing the origin of the nine dumbbell plates and the wheeled suitcase used to conceal the body, including its purchase location and price.

Forensic teams collected DNA samples from the padlock and chain securing the suitcase. The identity and nationality of the deceased woman remain unconfirmed, pending DNA analysis to establish her identity. Initial examinations revealed three wounds on the body: one on the right side of the neck, one on the chest, and one on the bridge of the nose, along with bruising likely caused by impact from a hard object.

Police Major General Theerachai instructed the investigative team to cross-check missing persons reports from nearby areas and the National Police’s missing persons database for the past five to seven days to identify any matches with the victim’s description. Rumors suggesting the woman may be of Chinese descent have not been confirmed, with authorities awaiting definitive test results.

This is a developing story.
