Banglamung, Chonburi – On August 12, 2025, residents of Banglamung district gathered at the multipurpose building of Pattaya City School 2 in Naklua Sub-district to participate in a merit-making and alms-giving ceremony. The event, presided over by District Chief Patcharapat Sritanyanon, was held to honor Her Royal Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, on her birthday, which coincides with Thailand’s National Mother’s Day.
The ceremony featured Buddhist chanting and the offering of dry food and rice to 94 monks, dedicated as a royal merit for Her Majesty’s auspicious occasion. Attendees included Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngampichet, local government leaders, Red Cross representatives, civil servants, judges, police, community leaders, and members of local associations and clubs.
Many participants wore blue shirts or official uniforms to express their loyalty and gratitude for Her Majesty’s benevolence. Families brought their mothers to join the almsgiving, fostering a warm and reverent atmosphere. During the event, the District Chief also presented certificates to 13 outstanding mothers recognized as National Mother’s Day honorees for 2025 in Banglamung.
Her Royal Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, was born on August 12th, 1932, in Bangkok. The daughter of Major General Prince Chandaburi Suranath and Mom Luang Bua Kitiyakara, she married His Royal Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great on April 28th, 1950. Throughout her life, she has undertaken significant royal duties, including rural development, promotion of Thai handicrafts, cultural preservation, and social welfare initiatives.
In recognition of her contributions, August 12th was designated Thailand’s National Mother’s Day. In 2019, His Royal Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, Rama X, bestowed upon her the title “Queen Mother of a Thousand Years,” signifying her role as the revered mother of the Thai monarchy and the nation.
