Pattaya, Thailand – Tourists have raised concerns about a group of approximately 10 individuals, both men and women, operating at Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya, who are reportedly misleading visitors into parking at private lots instead of the city’s official parking facilities. The issue has resurfaced during the recent long holiday weekend, prompting complaints to the media.
According to reports, the group uses megaphones to direct tourists, particularly those from out of town, to park in private lots rather than the city’s automated parking structure located in the same area. The individuals position themselves along the road from the Bali Hai Pier slope to the entrance of the city’s parking facility, sometimes even approaching vehicles waiting to enter the automated parking structure. They often claim that vehicles are “too low to enter” or that the facility is “full,” persuading drivers to divert to private parking lots charging up to 300 baht per day, even for short stays.https://youtu.be/YmGxvx_EsZg
In contrast, Pattaya’s automated parking structure offers a rate of 30 baht per hour, with a flat rate of 250 baht for parking exceeding eight hours. The facility features an automated lift system, 24-hour staff supervision, and protection from sun and rain, unlike the open-air private lots.
Additionally, Pattaya provides a free parking area known as the “Blue Lot” near the pier on weekends and during long holidays, with clear signage. However, the group allegedly intercepts tourists and directs them to their private lots instead.
Despite previous attempts to address the issue, the problem persists. During this holiday period, the group’s activities have resumed, leading some tourists to record videos and submit them to the media, urging authorities to take swift action to resolve the matter permanently.
