Chonburi Governor Visits Koh Larn to Distribute Stickers in Public Transport Regulation Project

Koh Larn-

On Tuesday, August 5th, 2025, at 3:30 p.m., Chonburi Governor Thawatchai Srithong visited Wat Mai Samran on Koh Larn to distribute stickers as part of a project to regulate public transport and other vehicles on the island. He was joined by Banglamung District Chief Patcharapat Srithanyanon, Pattaya Police Station Superintendent Police Colonel Anek Sarathongyoo, and other relevant authorities.

The program aims to enhance order and efficiency in managing vehicle traffic on Koh Lan. Previously, the lack of a structured control system led to traffic congestion and challenges in distinguishing between vehicles operated by local businesses, rental vehicles, and those owned by residents. This caused disruptions to the environment, local community life, and tourist safety.

To address these issues, Chonburi Province implemented a 14-day ban on bringing new vehicles to the island, allowing authorities to conduct a thorough vehicle registration survey. Over 3,500 vehicles were identified, leading to the introduction of a color-coded sticker system to clearly categorize vehicles by their purpose.

The stickers cover nine vehicle types, including golf carts, pick-up trucks, personal motorcycles, motorcycle taxis, rental motorcycles, tractors, personal four-wheeled vehicles, trucks, and cooperative songthaew vans. This system enables better identification and management of vehicles, improving traffic flow on the island.

Looking ahead, any requests to increase the number of vehicles on Koh Lan will require approval from at least two of three key authorities: Pattaya City, Pattaya Police Station, and Banglamung District Office. This measure aims to prevent external businesses from flooding the island with vehicles, protecting the interests of the local community.

The project’s primary goals are to reduce congestion, reclaim public spaces, enhance tourist safety, and establish a sustainable, well-organized transport system on Koh Larn for the long term.
