Pattaya, Thailand – On July 24th, 2025, at 9:30 AM, Pattaya City Mayor Poramese Ngampichet, alongside his secretarial team, officiated the launch of a project to remove unused telecommunications cables from utility poles.
The initiative, part of the 2025 Telecommunications Cable Organization Project, was held under the supervision of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) Pattaya Branch. The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Somak Wongwaiphanich, Assistant Governor of PEA Region 2 (Central), Chonburi Province, and attended by Banglamung District Chief Mr. Phatcharaphat Sritanyanon, Pattaya City executives, PEA officials, representatives from telecommunications companies, state and private sector agencies, as well as local cable and television providers.
Mr. Somak told The Pattaya News that the project aligns with the government’s policy to improve urban landscapes by addressing the issue of unused telecommunications cables cluttering utility poles, which negatively impacts the city’s visual appeal. As a unit under the Ministry of Interior, the PEA has partnered with Pattaya City to organize and streamline telecom cables in the Pattaya area.
The 2025 Kick-Off event targets a 1.4-kilometer stretch along Sawang Fa Road and the vicinity of the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, covering 60 utility poles. The initiative involves 16 telecommunications companies, which will also install cable markers to identify their respective lines.
Mayor Poramese highlighted the team effort between Pattaya City, PEA, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), and related agencies. The project, which spans from the Sukhumvit intersection to the Naklua intersection, aims to enhance public safety, protect property, and improve the city’s aesthetics. Additionally, Pattaya City and PEA have been working to relocate power and telecom cables underground, with 6-7 of the planned 9 routes already completed.
Two additional routes—Jomtien Second Road and the Naklua area (from the Dolphin Roundabout to the Banglamung District Office)—are slated for future underground relocation. This brings the total to 11 routes aimed at enhancing Pattaya’s visual appeal, ensuring safety for commuters, and improving the reliability of the power system under the PEA Pattaya Branch’s jurisdiction.
