BANGKOK – Thai authorities apprehended Mr. Hao Yong, a Chinese national, at Suvarnabhumi Airport as he attempted to flee to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Hao Yong is accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and robbery of a Chinese businessman in Pattaya, as we have been reporting here for the past two days.
According to police investigations, Hao Yong confessed to identifying the victim, who was abducted after leaving an entertainment venue in South Pattaya to eat noodles at a roadside stall. The victim was then forcibly taken by a group of assailants including two Chinese nationals and two Thai men in a BYD vehicle, robbed of 230,000 Baht in valuables, and later abandoned near a railway.
Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyoo, chief of Pattaya City Police Station, alongside Chonburi Immigration Police and investigative teams, is intensifying efforts to uncover any additional accomplices believed to be hiding in Thailand and neighboring countries.
The court had previously issued an arrest warrant for Hao Yong on multiple charges, including:
– Armed robbery with a firearm, committed by three or more individuals at night.
– Illegal possession of a firearm.
– Carrying a firearm in public without reasonable cause.
Thai police acted swiftly to prevent Hao Yong’s escape, apprehending him at the airport gate before he could board his flight. This followed the arrest of four other suspects as we reported here.
