Khao Kheow Zoo Launches ‘Cook for Moodeng’ Program

PRESS RELEASE:

Khao Kheow Open Zoo has announced a new interactive wildlife program called “Cook for Moodeng” to celebrate the first birthday of Moodeng, a pygmy hippopotamus born at the zoo. The activity, running from July 3 to 31, gives families a rare, hands-on experience with one of the zoo’s most popular animals.

Led by zoo staff, the experience begins each morning at 8:30 a.m. and is limited to just two families per day. Participants will learn about proper animal care and assist in preparing a special meal for Moodeng, tailored to her nutritional needs. Families will also have the opportunity to hand-feed the young hippo and interact closely with zookeepers during the session.

Reservations can be made through the “Khao Kheow Open Zoo Promotions” Facebook page. Proceeds from the program, after covering expenses, will go toward the zoo’s Wildlife Sponsorship Program, which supports the ongoing care of animals housed at the facility.

The program also encourages greater awareness of wildlife care by offering a personal look at the routines and attention animals receive from trained professionals. Through direct interaction, visitors can gain insight into the needs of species such as the pygmy hippopotamus and the effort required to support their well-being.
