Thais Protest in Bangkok Demanding Stronger Thailand Cambodia Border Stance

BANGKOK, Thailand – On Tuesday, June 10th, 2025, a group of protesters led by Sondhi Limthongkul, a prominent media figure and former leader of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), gathered at the Government Complaint Center opposite Government House to demand stronger action from the Thai government on Thai-Cambodia border issues.

Starting at 9:00 a.m., the crowd called on Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to take a firm and transparent stance in protecting Thailand’s borders with Cambodia. They specifically urged clarity ahead of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting scheduled for June 14, 2025. The group planned to submit a formal letter to the prime minister also.
The demonstration, organized by Sondhi and other former PAD leaders and their networks, saw a big police presence around Government House. Officers and police vehicles lined Phitsanulok Road, though traffic remained unaffected.

The protest displays ongoing tensions over border disputes with Cambodia, with the group pushing the need for firm government action to safeguard national interests. Some of their demands include firm refusal of any interference by the ICJ in Hague, the International Court of Justice, and to threaten to cut power, water, and mobile service to border regions of Cambodia supplied by Thailand if demands are not met.
