According to Mr. Gurov’s wife, also 54 and Russian, the assault took place on the morning of June 8. While Mr. Gurov was urinating in the wooded area and smoking a cigarette, he was approached by a man accompanied by a child. The assailants attacked him with a weapon, striking his head and causing him to lose consciousness. They then stole his belongings, though Mr. Gurov could not recall the exact items taken. After regaining consciousness, he sought help from friends and his wife before reporting the incident to the police.
