PATTAYA, Thailand – The Mayor of Pattaya has ordered an immediate suspension of construction on a 67-storey luxury condominium project at the top of Thappraya Soi 15 and Jomtien Second Road following a dramatic crane collapse on Monday, June 9, 2025.
The incident, which occurred at 1:00 PM, involved a large crane buckling and collapsing while lifting a concrete bucket at the construction site in Jomtien. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported although some panicked workers fled the scene initially.
Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngampichet announced the temporary halt to ensure public safety and allow for a thorough investigation. Preliminary reports indicate that the project, which has reached over 30 floors so far, experienced a failure when the crane’s arm buckled, causing its cables to snap and the structure to collapse against the building.
City engineers and officials from Pattaya’s Public Works Department will conduct a detailed inspection to determine the cause of the collapse, including whether the crane was overloaded beyond its capacity. Construction will remain on hold until the investigation confirms the site’s safety.
The Pattaya News notes the name of the condo and management company was officially withheld by relevant officials due to the ongoing legal investigation, although the location has been widely reported on social media.
Just about a week prior, a decorative cement shim plate collapsed, injuring an Australian tourist, at a different condo not far from this location, as we reported here.
