PATTAYA, Thailand – A fire broke out in the early hours of June 7th, 2025, at 3:36 AM, at a condominium on Soi Thappraya 15. The Pattaya Disaster Prevention Center received reports of a residential fire and swiftly dispatched Pattaya City firefighters, Sawang Boriboon Rescue volunteers, and officers from Pattaya Police Station to the scene. The Pattaya News team also went.
At the site, intense flames engulfed a condo unit in Building B, with thick smoke billowing across the structure. Panicked residents fled in droves, seeking safety away from the blaze. Firefighters evacuated occupants to secure areas while deploying water trucks to combat the fire, which originated in Room 210 on the second floor. After approximately 30 minutes, the flames were subdued, leaving only lingering smoke. Initial investigations pinpointed the fire’s origin to an electric bicycle battery being charged in the room. Alarmingly, residents noted that the building’s fire alarm system failed to activate during the blaze, only sounding after the situation was under control.
Mr. Dandrieu, a 57-year-old French national, and his Thai wife, who resided in the affected room, explained the incident to The Pattaya News team. They were asleep when a loud explosion startled them awake. They discovered the electric bicycle’s battery, charging on their balcony, had ignited. Initially, they attempted to extinguish the small flames with a wet cloth, but a second explosion triggered a rapid spread of fire. Unable to contain it, they alerted condominium security, who contacted emergency services.
Second Lieutenant Sakkyaphap Chaidech, Deputy Inspector of Pattaya Police, conducted a detailed inspection and documented the scene. Preliminary findings suggest the fire resulted from a short circuit in the electric bicycle’s battery, causing extensive damage to the room. Authorities will coordinate with Chonburi’s Forensic Division to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
No casualties were reported, but the incident has raised concerns about fire safety protocols in the building.
