PATTAYA, Thailand – At 3:30 AM on June 5th, 2025, Pattaya City Police received a report from residents who had detained a man accused of using a fake bank transfer slip to deceive a mobile phone shop. The incident occurred at an apartment in Soi Rungland Village in South Pattaya. The seized evidence included two iPhone 14 Pro Max devices valued at 48,000 baht.
At the scene, a crowd of locals had gathered after apprehending the suspect, identified as Mr. Phiphat Nonthuean, 37, who sustained injuries from being mobbed by residents. Police intervened to calm the chaotic situation and arranged for first aid from rescue personnel before escorting the suspect to Pattaya City Police Station.
According to an unidentified witness the suspect had arranged to purchase two iPhone 14 Pro Max phones from a shop in a South Pattaya mall. The shop dispatched a motorcycle taxi driver to deliver the phones to the suspect at the apartment. The suspect showed a fake bank transfer slip to the driver, who then contacted the shop to verify the payment. Seizing the moment, the suspect attempted to flee into the apartment building with the phones. However, alert bystanders noticed his suspicious behavior, chased him down, and detained him, leading to the mob assault.
Police have seized the suspect and the evidence, transferring them to investigators for legal proceedings. The suspect faces charges related to fraud and forgery, with further actions to be determined under Thai law.
