PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, Thailand – A major accident occurred early on Wednesday morning, June 4th, 2025, when a tour bus crashed on Phet Kasem Road in Prachuap Khiri Khan, resulting in two fatalities and 13 injuries. The incident, attributed to the driver falling asleep at the wheel, took place around 4:51 a.m. near kilometre marker 327+100, in front of the Phra Mongkut Klao Camp in Tambon Huai Sai.
The yellow tour bus was traveling from Rayong to Don Sak district in Surat Thani province with 28 passengers on board. According to Khlong Wan police station, the bus veered off the road, crashed into a guardrail, and plunged into a median ditch, striking an electricity pole. The uninjured driver, identified only as Tossaporn, 51, admitted to briefly dozing off, which led to the loss of control of the vehicle.
Emergency responders from Huai Sai Rescue were dispatched to the scene, where they found the bus severely damaged. Two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, and 13 others were injured, with five reported in critical condition. The injured were promptly transported to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital for treatment. Rescue operations involved extracting passengers from the wreckage, with images showing the bus lodged in the median strip.
This incident adds to the ongoing concerns about road safety in Thailand, particularly involving long-distance tour buses. Authorities are investigating the crash to determine additional factors that may have contributed to the accident, including the driver’s condition and the bus’s maintenance history.
This comes only days after another tour bus accident in Bangkok injured multiple Indian foreign exchange students, with the driver blaming brake failure.
