Pattaya, Thailand – On May 31st, 2025, at approximately 11:30 AM, a violent shooting incident occurred in a residential area in Huay Yai, leaving one man injured. The incident took place at a single-story house, located on Soi Khao Makok 6/4, off of Moo 4 in the Huay Yai Subdistrict.
Update: More details on this incident have been released and are covered in this updated story here.
Police Lieutenant Mintratit Thongsai, Deputy Inspector of Huay Yai Police Station, received a report of gunfire with an injured person and the shooter still inside the residence. He promptly informed his superiors and mobilized a response team, including investigative officers, patrol units armed with weapons, and rescuers from the Pattaya-based Buriphoontham Foundation. The Pattaya News team also went to the scene.
At the scene, authorities found a large pool of blood at the front gate, with a trail of blood leading into the house. Inside the living room, a 26-year-old Chinese national, identified as Mr. Yang, found severely injured. He had been shot once in the right ankle with an unknown caliber firearm, resulting in a shattered bone, significant blood loss, and labored breathing. Two other Chinese nationals were providing basic first aid to Mr. Yang while awaiting medical assistance. Rescue teams arrived and transported the injured man to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for urgent treatment.
Witnesses confirmed that the shooter fled toward the rear of the house, which is located in a densely populated community area. Over 20 uniformed and plainclothes police officers cordoned off the area and conducted a 30-minute manhunt, successfully apprehending the suspect. The individual was immediately taken to Huay Yai Police Station for questioning but was not immediately identified by authorities, citing the ongoing investigation.
A 27-year-old neighbor, referred to as Ms. Mon (name withheld), provided a statement to the police. She reported hearing an argument among a group of Chinese nationals prior to the incident. Two vehicles—a new unregistered sedan and a blue Mercedes-Benz—were parked in front of the house. The group, consisting of four to five individuals, was engaged in a heated dispute when three gunshots rang out. Ms. Mon rushed outside and saw the group struggling to drag the injured man into the house before police were called.
Local residents noted that after the shooting, the suspect fled toward the back of the village, while the white sedan was seen speeding away from the scene. The motive behind the incident remains unclear. Neighbors reported that the house, rented by Chinese nationals, has been a frequent source of disputes and disturbances.
In a surprising twist, Mr. Yang, the victim, was involved in a separate bizarre incident just two days prior, where he reportedly jumped into a water tank on the rooftop of a condominium in Soi Thepprasit as we reported here and was found swimming, according to him, but now police are reportedly looking into if this incident may have had intentions of foul play.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of today’s shooting and the suspect remains in custody as police work to uncover the true cause of the incident. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
