Pattaya, April 27th, 2025 — A disturbance broke out yesterday afternoon in front of a convenience store in Pattaya, Chonburi Province, involving two intoxicated foreign nationals.
Witnesses reported that the pair, behaving aggressively, littered the street, argued with, and assaulted a Thai food delivery rider, drawing anger from bystanders.
According to initial reports, the 44-year-old rider (name withheld) was on his motorcycle delivering food when the foreigners’ car sideswiped him. One of the foreigners then threw a bag of trash at him.
The rider confronted them, but both foreigners (whose identities withheld) exited their vehicle, allegedly hurled insults, and physically attacked him. A Thai woman tried to intervene but was unsuccessful.
The situation escalated as local residents stepped in to defend the rider, resulting in a scuffle that left the foreigners on the ground. They eventually fled into the convenience store for safety as a gathering crowd of Thais, angered by allegedly insensitive comments made to Thai people, attempted to confront them.
Pattaya City Police soon arrived, with the foreigners claiming they were assaulted and had lost a mobile phone. Officers brought all parties to the police station. The foreigners later reportedly admitted to starting the altercation and agreed to compensate the rider with 15,000 baht before being released.
The incident has driven a lot of discussion on Thai language social media, with many Thais calling for stricter rules and regulations around entry to Thailand for tourists to help screen out problematic tourists.
