Pattaya —
Pattaya City officials inspected and tested a newly completed drainage system along the eastern railway road on April 24th to prepare for heavy rainfall and ease flooding in central areas.
Pattaya Mayor Mr. Poramase Ngampichet visited the construction site of the Phase 1 Eastern Railway Parallel Road Drainage System Project to inspect and test the system in preparation for the upcoming rainy season.
Mr. Poramase stated that this drainage construction project is part of a long-term plan to address flooding in Pattaya. Although the construction has been underway for some time, it faced delays due to obstacles involving pillars for the high-speed railway. The system involves the installation of 1.80-meter diameter pressure pipes spanning 2,500 meters and 2-meter drainage pipes stretching 3,000 meters, covering a total distance of 5.5 kilometers.
The purpose is to store and pump floodwater from Nongprue Municipality near Soi Khao Noi to Khlong Suea Phaew and Khlong Naklua to prevent overflow into central Pattaya areas such as Sukhumvit Road, South Pattaya Intersection, and Soi Bongkot.
Phase 2 is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Once both phases are completed, the city will evaluate the system’s effectiveness in managing floodwaters from Nongprue and protecting inner Pattaya from future flooding.
