Photo Tour: Pattaya Celebrates Wan Lai, the Big Songkran Day, in Style

PATTAYA, Thailand – April 19, 2025 – The annual Wan Lai Festival, a cherished local tradition held every April 19, transformed Pattaya into a lively hub of water-soaked festivities, drawing crowds of Thai and international tourists to the city’s streets.

The day kicked off with a formal ceremony at Wat Chaimongkol, a royal temple, where a vibrant procession featured Buddhist monks and a revered Buddha statue. The parade wound through Pattaya Second Road and along the beachfront to South Pattaya, allowing residents and visitors to sprinkle water on the sacred images for blessings and good fortune.

As the afternoon unfolded, the atmosphere shifted into high gear. Locals and tourists poured onto the streets, armed with water guns, buckets, and enthusiasm. Tents lined nearly every road, with revelers setting up water stations to douse passersby. Pickup trucks loaded with barrels of water and revelers roamed the city, while motorbikes zipped through, adding to the playful chaos. The energy peaked into the evening, mirroring the exuberant crowds of past years.

Music blared from speakers, with dance beats fueling impromptu street parties. Vendors seized the opportunity, selling water guns, buckets, food, and talcum powder, boosting the local economy. The festive spirit was palpable, with laughter, music, and splashing echoing across Pattaya.
To ensure safety and curb potential crime, Pattaya City Police, led by Pol. Col. Anek Sratongyoo, urged participants to wrap up water activities by 11:00 PM. Authorities stated the importance of safeguarding lives and property during the celebrations.

The Wan Lai Festival once again showcased Pattaya’s vibrant community spirit, uniting people in a joyful celebration of tradition and togetherness.
