Thai PM Welcomes Malaysian Counterpart, Strengthens Ties with New Bridge Agreement

BANGKOK, April 17, 2025 — Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra hosted Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on a working visit to Thailand. The leaders witnessed the exchange of the Construction Agreement for the Second Golok Bridge, a project symbolizing the deep ties between Thailand and Malaysia.

In productive discussions, the prime ministers explored cooperation in critical areas, including energy security and combating online scams. Making clear their shared commitment as close neighbors, they reaffirmed efforts to promote sustainable peace and positive socio-economic development, particularly in Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces and Northern Malaysia, to enhance the prosperity and well-being of their citizens.
The leaders also exchanged views on pressing regional and global issues, including the situation in Myanmar which had a recent major earthquake that also affected Thailand, the international trade environment and US tariffs, and the need to improve ASEAN’s unity and economic cooperation amid global uncertainties.

Both expressed a determination to address these challenges together for the benefit of the region.
